Pea Island, North Carolina 9/17/1998

After leaving Hatteras I made a stop at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and enjoyed the scenery. A walk in the shade was a pleasant break. Plenty of live oaks and marshlands surrounding manmade lakes provide refuge for birds and other wildlife. The turtle pond was loaded with turtles taking life easy and was an interesting sight. I had stopped in a grocery in Hatteras and here was where I chose to have my lunch - a banana and yogurt. The little Igloo cooler I picked out of the trash at Kay's yard sale is handy for my koolaid - which I picked out of her cabinet.

Just north of the wildlife refuge is Bodie Island lighthouse, pronounced Body, where I toured the visitor's center and lighthouse.
